Indianapolis Elopement | Downtown Indy

This downtown Indianapolis elopement was truly beautiful, and it was made complete with a stunning springtime stroll along Central Canal. Shallom + John’s intimate Indianapolis elopement was a joy to capture with their family around them on a bright sunny day.

I received an inquiry in my email from Daniel, Shallom’s brother (pictured below in blue), reaching out for a photographer to capture his sister’s intimate elopement that was going to be happening on a lovely spring Monday in March.

They were new to Indianapolis and had only been living here for a few months. To say that I was excited to meet Shallom, her fiancé, John, and her family was an understatement. I was dreaming of the perfect spot in downtown Indy for photos following their intimate ceremony.

Shallom + her family moved from west Africa to Seattle, WA a few years ago. While Shallom + her family were living in Seattle, this is where she met John through a friend. And as they say, the rest is history!

John + Shallom have a beautiful daughter named Anna and she was a part of their Indianapolis elopement too, don’t worry! Their day was simple and sweet—it focused on the start of their marriage and their value of being together as a family.

Shallom + John committed their lives to one another at Same Day Weddings in Indianapolis. It was a sweet, quaint ceremony with Shallom’s parents, her brother, Daniel, and Shallom and John’s daughter, Anna as their witnesses. The officiant led them in sharing their vows during their Indianapolis elopement and they shared their first kiss before taking a few photos with family.

We made our way from Circle Center downtown to Central Canal by White River State Park. This location was stunning in the spring. The sun was shining. The water was sparkling. Not to mention, at this time of day (mid-afternoon), it was still and quiet with few people which made for a perfect photo location.

As I was checking on lighting and walking down the stairs to the location I was planning to use, I watched John, Shallom, and their family’s reactions. Daniel commented, “This is so beautiful! Thank you for choosing this spot!” I was so happy that this was the location that we finalized together because it was stunning that day for couples photos and family portraits.

Shallom + John have a sweet, tender, love for one another. I could see it in the way that Shallom would smirk and look at John while they were walking. This was one of my favorite moments to photograph because I was watch them truly be themselves as they smiled at one another.

I could feel their love for one another in the way that they would relax into each other’s arms when they were close. Every couple’s love story is different and getting to experience the way they cared for each other was very special.

Let’s talk about this family and how they should win an award for their sharp outfits. Seriously though, how good do they all look?! And not only did they look great, but they were all so happy together. Shallom’s parents were full of smiles and joy in this day and so was her brother, Daniel!

I was working on posing the family for a formal portrait and Shallom’s father commented on how professional the experience was which was so kind of him to say! Every wedding day—elopement or not—deserves some formal, professional portraits of the couple and family (if present).

These images are usually the ones that are printed and hung up on the wall. They hold a lot of meaning for families and get passed down through generations.

Before we knew it, it was almost dinner time which meant it was time to take the last couple of images to document John + Shallom’s day.  Shallom’s parents and brother took Anna in her stroller as I was wrapping up photos with John + Shallom. Ending their Indianapolis elopement with these calm, quiet moments couldn’t have been more fitting.

I wish Shallom + John much joy and happiness in their marriage and I am honored to have been invited in to capture their elopement day.

Every wedding is beautiful. And let’s not forget that elopements are weddings—they aren’t less than a traditional wedding. At Vallosio Photo + Film, we believe that eloping allows a couple the freedom to celebrate their wedding day how they want to.

If this appeals to you, then an elopement might be the right fit. Elopements can be like John + Shallom’s and take place at a courthouse or same-day wedding chapel in the city. They can take place in the mountains or on a beach. Elopements can have family present like Shallom + John’s did, or they can be private.

Eloping just shifts the focus onto what is important to the couple. If this is what you’re looking for, you can reach out and contact Jonathan and I here and we can start talking about your dream day and any photo or video needs you might have!
