If you live in Indiana and want epic waterfall engagement photos, you don’t have to go far! The day I realized that Indiana has a perfect location for waterfall engagement photos was when I visited Cataract Falls in Indiana.

As an outdoorsy couple, Jonathan and I love every opportunity to visit Cataract Falls in Indiana! Our visits are made even sweeter when we get to capture photo and video of our couples who want to create a memorable experience in this beautiful location.

Cataract Falls, Indiana
Cataract Falls State Park has a few areas in the park you can visit: the upper falls, the lowers falls, a covered bridge, and picnic tables/shelters that would be great for a picnic! As long as the water levels aren’t too high, there is also a place where you can get up close to the falls. There are so many beautiful spots here for stunning waterfall engagement photos.

Summer Waterfall Engagement Photos
Brandy + Nick
Brandy + Nick were up for ANYTHING so why not play in the largest waterfall in Indiana in July?! We spent the evening exploring, playing in the water, and, of course, popping some “bubbly”. (It was actually carbonated water—learn about sustainable photo practices here).

The sky that night turned to the softest, prettiest pastel sunset colors that happens to coordinate beautifully with Brandy’s dress. Nick + Brandy were so comfortable with one another—very natural in front of the camera and so happy. They laughed together, splashed each other, and their smiles were so bright.

It was a perfect night for adventurous, playful waterfall engagement photos. We truly loved getting to know more about Brady + Nick before capturing photography and videography for their wedding day!

Spring Waterfall Engagement Photos
Rachel + Josh
Months before he planned to propose, Josh reached out to us to capture this moment for him and his girlfriend, Rachel. Josh wanted a beautiful spot in nature and he was hoping for waterfall engagement photos after the proposal. Cataract Falls in Indiana was the perfect spot!

In the months ahead, we planned all the details from the outfits to the stunning spot overlooking the falls, the ring hand-off to the number of poses that would cue the big question. During this process Josh shared with us, “This is going off without a hitch and I couldn’t be more thankful for you! If any other photographer shot this, I would have been a nervous wreck. I kept saying that I knew Rachel would love to have you take photos of us, but looking back on it, I really needed you as well. It has made this event so stress-free, and I feel like I can just enjoy it. You’re great at this!”

Rachel thought that she and Josh were modeling for us. Little did she know what surprise awaited her. Josh proposed to Rachel in front of Cataract Falls with the most gorgeous sunset lighting them. Rachel was so surprised, and their genuine emotion and true joy over their engagement was beautiful to behold.

Cataract Falls Engagement Photos
We 100% recommend couples have a photo session leading up to their wedding. Weddings can be stressful and what sessions like this do is create an opportunity to take a break from wedding planning to be together.

Intentional dates like these allow you to focus on the most important part of your wedding day: your love for one another. Not to mention, you have an amazing excuse to explore an epic location like Cataract Falls!

If you’d like us to document something special like waterfall engagement photos, you can contact Jonathan and I here. Then we can start talking about your engagement session along with any photo or video needs you might have.
