If you live in Indiana and are looking to get epic waterfall engagement photos, you don’t have to go far! The day I realized that Indiana actually has a perfect location for waterfall engagement photos was the first time I visited Cataract Falls State Park.
Indiana has more to offer than flat land, greenery, and cornfields for your engagement photos! These falls are stunning and you should see the golden light at this place around sunset. It’s enough to make you swoon.
Cataract Falls, Indiana
There are a few areas in the park you can visit: the upper falls, the lowers falls, a covered bridge, and picnic tables/shelters that would be great for a picnic!
There is even a spot where you can get up close and personal with the falls (SAFELY). This spot will be explored the next time we visit as long as water levels aren’t too high.
Cataract Falls Photos
Brandy + Nick were up for ANYTHING which is why an adventurous couples session was the right fit for their engagement photos. And why not play in the largest waterfall in Indiana in July?! We went for it and there are no regrets!
We spent the evening exploring, playing in the water, and, of course, popping some “bubbly”. (It was actually carbonated water—learn about sustainable photo practices here).
The sky that night turned to the softest, prettiest pastel sunset colors that happens to coordinate beautifully with Brandy’s dress.
Capturing Nick + Brandy together was awesome. They were so comfortable with one another—very natural in front of the camera and so happy. They laughed together, splashed each other, and their smiles were so bright.
Who doesn’t love a fun, adventurous, playful date with their favorite person?! We loved getting to know more about the two of them before capturing photography and videography for their wedding day!
Adventurous Waterfall Engagement Session
Here’s the thing: We 100% recommend couples to do a photo session leading up to their wedding. Weddings can be stressful and what sessions like this do is create an opportunity to take a break from wedding planning to be together.
Create time to go on a date that is a different, full of adventure, and have those memories captured. Whether it’s three weeks before your wedding (like Nick + Brandy) or a couple of days, it’s intentional time spent together.
Dates like these allow a couple to focus on the most important part of their wedding day: their love for one another. Not to mention, you have an amazing excuse to explore an epic location like Cataract Falls or another state park!
